破纪录!全女班3天盖好房

没有建筑背景,
全女班3天盖好1房子。

去年3月,《马来西亚记录大全》(Malaysian Book of Records)记录了一项壮举,但却因为冠病疫情和政治动荡,这项喜事被种种新闻“淹没”了。

这个记录就是家园志工计划”(Epic Homes)的第一位女性建筑工程队队长张文花(Esther Chit),所率领的全女班志工团队,在3天内就为原住民盖好1间屋子。

张文花在2014年加入Epic Homes,从志工晋升到小组长,随后升级到建筑工程队长,现在已经是Epic Homes的集团总营运长。

Epic Homes是在11年前成立,目的是免费为符合资格的本地原住民建造屋子。目前,这个组织共有17位建筑工程队队长,其中有两位是女性,主要职责是监督整个建屋工程的流程、进度和质量,以及所有志工的安全。

速度之快 原住民也惊讶

而记入《马来西亚纪录大全》的项目,证明了女性也可以靠自己的力量完成建屋工程!

在工程展开之前,她邀请了3位原住民妇女全程参与,起初她们不相信自己能够做到,直到3天后一间完整的屋子呈现于眼前,她们惊讶地表示做梦也想不到自己有能力建造一间屋子。

“在体力上,女性也许比不上男性,但不表示做不到,只要作一些调整同样能完成任务。比方说,男性一次可以拿2、3根木材,那女性就多走几趟,一次拿一根木材就好。一个人搬不动重物,那就两个人一起搬。那次经历为那些参与的原住民妇女带来了思想上的改变,原来自己的能力不容小觑!”

3天真的够?

由非专业人士建屋,3天内真的能够完成吗?这个问题在设计环节时已经被拿出来讨论了一番。

为了在最短时间内完成,屋子设计采用模组块系统,一个模组块是110方尺,只要调整模组块便能建造不同体积的屋子,就像是按照指南自行安装家具般简易。

张文花还安排4位志工组长带着支工逐步地搭建屋子,即使无经验或只有基础技能的志工和原住民都能轻易完成任务。

选择3天建屋还有另外一个原因,因为大家都是志工,有自己的工作,因此3天是最理想的时间,志工不需请太多假期,也比较容易招募志工。

已建164屋子

“我们一般都会按时间完成,除非是遇到连续下雨天,但这种情况很少有。志工从早上约8时30分开工至傍晚6时左右,然后就会回到离村庄不远处的城市或小镇的民宿或旅馆休息。如果村庄坐落在较偏远地区,我们会在村里搭建帐篷。”

目前,Epic Homes主要是为西马半岛的原住民建屋,包括彭亨、吉兰丹、霹雳、瓜拉雪兰莪等,迄今总共建造了164间屋子。

Epic Homes旨在帮助改善原住民的生活。

在不同的原住民村庄里,不是每间屋子的状况都是糟糕的,但那些糟糕的真的很糟糕!张文花看过最糟糕的有严重倾斜的屋子,还有使用浴缸、竹子或横幅充当屋顶的屋子,你可以想象雨天时的漏水情况……再来是那些过度拥挤的屋子,2、3个家庭住在一间小屋里。

事先勘探 建立关系

在建屋工程展开以前,Epic Homes通常会差派一组探路者前往原住民村庄探悉情况,与村民打交道、建立信任感,从中了解他们真正需要的资源。接下来是安排建造的优先和顺序,以没有像样屋子的家庭为优先,接着的排序是屋子结构严重损坏、过度拥挤、家有残疾者等,以此类推。

团队也会与村委进行讨论,有些村委会要求把村民的参与度列入顺序考量,愿意参与建造的排在前面,不参与的排在后面。此外,团队也会提供材料予只需要维修的屋子。

一般上,一个团队约有30至35人,包括一位建筑工程队队长、4位小组长以及2位协调员。小组长负责屋子的不同建造部分,而协调员则负责团队的饮食、住宿、交通和安全。他们也邀请屋主全程参与,而屋主也有义务协助建造两间屋子,这种机制称为“Pay it Forward”。

无建筑背景也可以

能够率领团队建房子,张文花却毫无建筑学背景!

“我的学术背景是心理学,后来到中国从事工厂管理工作。2010年退休后,我想从事一些跟社区服务有关的工作,便成为了Epic Homes的志工。经过第一次参与后,我更加肯定这是我想要做的事。”

Epic Homes会为志工提供1天的基础工作坊,除了了解建筑的基本知识、技能和安全外,也须认识和尊重原住民的文化,以及清楚即将面对的环境,以免侵犯到原住民的隐私。

目前,约有超过6000位志工参与建屋计划,有许多人都是“回头客”,甚至有者创办了援助原住民的社会企业,以改善他们的生活,比如为原住民妇女所设的手艺技能培训,让她们赚取收入维持生计,并有能力供孩子上学。

70岁志工也贡献

虽说志工的年龄条件设在17岁以上,但17岁以下的学生在有监管人陪同下也可以参与。“最年长的志工嘛……我们有一位70岁的!年长志工与一般志工做的工作无异,只是不会让他们爬高爬低。”

询及为何不专挑有建筑背景的志工或直接找承包商?她解释,志工团队里也有不少设计师和建筑师,但Epic Homes除了为原住民建屋的同时,另外一个主要目的是希望把城市人带入原住民群体中,拉近彼此的距离,建立信任感,同时让更多人了解原住民的生活情况,并按需给予不同的支援,建立正向社会影响力。

“不管你从事什么行业,任何人都可以加入我们的志工团队。我敢保证,整个建屋过程是非常简单的,任何人都有能力建好一间屋子,除非是健康状况不佳、无法在暴晒下工作或不能承受体力活。”

外形设计有辨识度

无论在哪个原住民村庄,你一眼就能认出Epic Homes,除了外形设计都一样,它也拥有几个特点:

起初,屋子附有内建厕所,但原住民并不喜欢,认为把厕所建在屋子里不卫生。后来,团队便把厕所都建在户外。

对原住民来说,木材是最熟悉的原材料之一。团队在建屋时依然会使用木材建地板、柱子等,若屋主以后要维修或附加一些家具便懂得操作。
